The National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) is a national super-sized exhibition and convention project nurtured by a joint initiative of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal Government. Operated by the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., this grand venue spans over 1.5 million square meters in total, unified in a dynamic compound of expos, conferences, commercial operations, offices, and hotel services, featuring a display area of nearly 600,000 square meters. At present, it remains the largest operational convention-exhibition complex in one single architectural structure worldwide.
Its principal construction takes the graceful four-leaf clover — a symbol of good fortune — as its design conceptual model. It is symmetrical, bearing elements inspired by traditional Chinese motifs, a veritable icon of the city of Shanghai. Recognized with China’s National Green Building Operation Three-Star Certification, it holds dual certifications for both design and operations, a first for any large convention-exhibition facility in China, also crowned today as the largest green-certified construction nationwide.
